Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Noting the 70th anniversary of his historic major league debut this past April, Mickey Mantle first appeared in pinstripes as a 19-year old in front of Yankee supporters in The House That Ruth Built on Opening Day, April 17, 1951, where he graced right field and batted third. The Mick earned his first major league hit that day, an RBI single in the sixth off Bill Wight. One of the most desirable examples in the hobby, this Yankees opening day ticket stub hails from Mantle’s debut, and has been graded VG 3 by PSA. Fresh-to-the-hobby specimen and recently graded, the lower box seat lists a price of $3.00, with the date of “April 17, 1951”, with “Opening Day” in red. One of only seventeen tickets to meet PSA’s approval, thirteen have been graded “authentic”, with three receiving numerical grades including one GOOD 2, three VG 3 – including this example, and just one higher at EX 5 with Qualifier. A paramount specimen, this ticket stub represents the genesis of one of the greatest sporting careers in history.
