Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

With 536 home runs to his credit and seven World Series titles, Yankees icon Mickey Mantle took his rightful place in Cooperstown in 1974. The Mick hit a World Series-record 18 homers and led New York to 12 American League pennants in 18 seasons from 1951-68. This Mickey Mantle 1974 Baseball Hall of Fame 10-karat gold limited-edition replica ring celebrates his enshrinement among baseball’s immortals after he was named on 88.2 percent of the ballots in his first year of eligibility. This size 11 1/2 ring weighs approximately 40 grams. According to our consignor, who bought it in the mid-1990s, there were about 20-25 rings made in this limited edition.
A gold baseball is set in the middle of a black stone on the tableau, with “Baseball Hall of Fame” spelled out in raised gold letters surrounding it on the bezel. “Mantle” is stamped on a banner across the top of the right shank above an image of the façade of the museum, with “National Baseball Hall of Fame” at the bottom. The left shank displays “Centerfield” stamped on a banner at the top above the image of a baseball atop crossed baseball bats with a baseball diamond in the background, and “Elected 1974” at the bottom.
Wonderfully preserved with sharp details and light surface scratches.
