Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Seeing action in only sixteen regular-season contests during his rookie campaign with the Montreal Canadiens in 1942-43 due to a broken leg, Maurice Richard would net his first NHL goal against the New York Rangers, on Nov 8, 1942. Representing the genesis of his long association with the Montreal Canadiens organization, any and all early photos featuring The Rocket are highly coveted, with the offered Habs team photo from Richard’s second season in 1943-44 made all the more desirable as it’s the very example that originates from his personal collection (the photo originally sold in our 2002 Maurice Richard Auction, with a catalog from said auction to accompany the lot). At approx 8” x 19 ½”, the panoramic image pictures the full squad including a 22-year-old Richard, with the photographer Laurent Marsan listed over the bottom right. Affixed to a larger matte and framed to approx 16” x 27”, the photo displays beautifully, with wear to the frame. An LOA from the Richard family is included.
