Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Fresh off his tenure as the darling of Madison Avenue which would include a Cup win in 1994, Mark Messier then spent three productive seasons in Vancouver beginning in 1997-98. From his first season in British Columbia, we have a Canucks captain’s jersey worn by the HOFer, and it’s been signed. CCM labeling along with a size 56 fly tag remain affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back bottom hem. Styled with a gorgeous Canucks team crest with embroidered highlights, the V-neck sweater has been embellished with textured sleeve and verso numbers, with the 1998 All-Star Game crest over the right breast. “Game-Worn” also appears handwritten along the fight strap. Messier has signed vertically across the second reverse “1” in black marker, and the signature displays extremely well. Originally acquired by Mike Keenan while coaching the Canucks during the 1997-98 season, an LOA along with a COR from MeiGray will accompany.
Game-wear on the important Messier sweater includes faint board burns on the lower front, along with additional examples over each sleeve.
