Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
A first round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in 1974, Mario Tremblay won five Stanley Cup championships with the Habs, retiring after the 1985-86 NHL season. The Alma native would coach the Canadiens for two seasons beginning in 1995-96. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of Mario Tremblay by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, the former star player is wonderfully depicted, with his name and tenure listed on the matte. The artist has signed, adding the date (1995), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with a bit of damage to the text on the matte and light wear to the frame. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
