Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

One of North America’s greatest sporting venues, Maple Leaf Gardens came to fruition due to the inadequate seating capacity of Arena Gardens, with Conn Smythe envisioning a more lavish and impressive arena. Construction began at midnight on June 1, 1931, and amazingly, the Gardens was completed in just over 2 months – a time frame that even modern contractors would have problems meeting. We have an original seating blueprint for the famous building, with this specimen date-stamped July 1931, assuring actual use in the construction. At approx 41 ½” x 56”, the blueprints outlines the seating area of the Gardens, with “Received July 8 1931 – Ross & McDonald Toronto” stamped on the reverse, with a second “filing room” stamp dated “July 7 1931” from the architectural firm that designed MLG, Ross & McDonald.
The blueprint shows heavy wear and folds, with many small tears and toning along fold intersections, along with some edge wear. Despite the condition issues, the blueprint needs to be professionally flattened and framed, and would make a majestic display piece.
