Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Setting the NHL record for goals scored in a season by a left winger with 61 – previously held by Steve Shutt, the milestone was fittingly reached by Luc Robitaille during his career-best campaign of 1992-93 where he netted an astounding 125 points throughout his 84 regular-season games played (he would finish the season with 63 goals, with the record now held by Alexander Ovechkin). We have the puck used by Robitaille to set the record, accompanied by the stick used to score the historic goal, with this lot further augmented by the sticks used by both Wayne Gretzky and Tomas Sandstrom to assist on the goal! The puck used during the April 8, 1993 contest is an official InGlasCo model with screened NHL crest and Stanley Cup centennial reverse, with “#20” and “61st Goal” handwritten. The sticks include a Fontaine model (Robitaille), an Easton Aluminum (Gretzky) and a Sher-Wood SOP 7000 model (Sandstrom). A signed LOA from Luc Robitaille will accompany this highly desirable milestone puck and sticks group.
The puck exhibits wear from use with no large unsightly marks or damage. The Robitaille stick sports white tape over the handle and inserted blade with “#20” handwritten, with nice use exhibited including wear to the underside of the blade. The Gretzky stick has his name in factory graphics over the upper shaft, with black tape over the original inserted Easton blade with “Gretzky” over the stem, with a gripper over the handle. The stick shows light use with wear to the taped section of blade. Finally, the Sandstrom stick has his name and “7” stamped, with the original black tape on the knob and no tape on the blade as used, with light to moderate use exhibited.
A portion of the sales from the Luc Robitaille personal collection will benefit the Echoes of Hope Foundation. Founded in 2007 by Stacia and Luc Robitaille, Echoes of Hope strives to awaken the spirit of hope in the lives of children, youth, and young adults in need by alleviating barriers and helping them reach their full potential.
