Rewriting the NHL record books during his stay in Motor City, Luc Robitaille would register his 611th career goal on Jan 18, 2002, with the marker elevating the superstar to the status of the greatest scoring left winger in history. Surpassing fellow HOF member Bobby Hull with the goal, Robitaille was wearing this exact photo-matched Red Wings jersey when he reached the milestone. A label and “54” size tag are affixed to the collar with “2” stenciled above (for second set), with CCM and NHL crests over the reverse neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with the attractive winged-wheel team crest borrowed from the famous Montreal AAA, the solid white V-neck has been accented with single twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Robitaille” arching over the upper reverse in matching material. The team patch resides on the inside hem, and it denotes the garment as a “1st Set” example (but used as a second set). A signed LOA from Luc Robitaille will accompany this important milestone jersey.
The jersey exhibits heavy game-use with numerous puck and stick marks over the front, reverse and left sleeve, with some pilling to the interior sleeves and beneath the fight strap. There are also two small team repairs on the lower left sleeve. The jersey has been video-matched to the goal, specifically to the large dark mark visible just above the left breast.
A portion of the sales from the Luc Robitaille personal collection will benefit the Echoes of Hope Foundation. Founded in 2007 by Stacia and Luc Robitaille, Echoes of Hope strives to awaken the spirit of hope in the lives of children, youth, and young adults in need by alleviating barriers and helping them reach their full potential.
