Presented annually by the National Hockey League and USA Hockey to recognize the recipients contributions to ice hockey in the United States, the 2000 edition of the award was awarded to Lou Vairo. A stalwart in US hockey for six decades, Vairo has coached at every level including as an assistant in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils, and several stints coaching the national team. Among his highlights, he was a scout for the legendary 1980 "Miracle on Ice" team that won gold. For his accomplishments, Vairo won the IIHF’s Paul Loicq Award in 2010 and was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014. Standing at 11” x 5”, the weighted trophy is affixed to a wooden base measuring 5” x 7” while a gold-coloured plaque reading “Lester Patrick Award Lou Vairo 2000" sits on the front of the wood base. Displaying is good condition with no flaws to the statue itself, light wear is found to the wooden base with a small divot in the front under the plaque and wear around the statue also present.
