The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Amazing piece of vintage lumber was used by the great Jean Beliveau during his time with the Quebec Aces of the Quebec Senior Hockey League, a time which Montreal Canadiens supporters and especially Habs management found very long indeed. Following two successful seasons with the Junior Citadelles team, marked by a showering of gifts during his last season, Beliveau decided to remain in Quebec and play for the Aces instead of joining the Canadiens and the NHL. Crowds continued to fill the Colisée and also flocked to other arenas as Senior hockey reached new heights in popularity. Beliveau scored 45 and 50 goals in the '51-52 and '52-53 seasons respectively and copped the scoring title each year. This Beliveau game used stick was obtained from the Aces' former equipment man. The lie number, "7", is stamped on the front of the shaft while all 4 sides feature Beliveau's number "9" added in pencil. A big knob of black bulldog tape is what Beliveau gripped while the original black blade tape is no longer present. No manufacturer's markings are on the stick, just the remnants of blue and red-striped decals. Still solid and without any cracks, the 50+ year old relic is in outstanding condition and from a special time in hockey history.
