The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Fantastic photo captures Red Wing left winger Syd Howe in an on-ice pose and includes a splendid vintage fountain pen autograph of the Hall-of-Famer. Following NHL stops in Ottawa, Philadelphia, Toronto and St. Louis, Howe arrived in Detroit in February of 1935 and for the next 11 seasons was a consistent scorer and playmaker, helping the Wings to Stanley Cup victories in '36, '37 and '43. When he retired in 1946 Howe was the NHL's all-time point leader with 528. His modern-day record of 6 goals in a game has been equalled by Red Berenson and Darryl Sittler but never bettered. The picture has an "Albert E. Backland" photographer's stamp on the reverse. Some edge wear, light surface scratches and splattered "specs" to mention, but still a stunning signed picture to frame, display and cherish.
