The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
It was somewhat fitting that the tradition-rich Montreal Canadiens captured Lord Stanley's trophy in 1993 as the hockey world celebrated the Stanley Cup's 100th anniversary. Patrick Roy turned in his 2nd Conn Smythe trophy performance of his career and Montreal enjoyed its 1st Stanley Cup parade in 7 years following playoff victories over the Nordiques, Sabres, Islanders and Kings. The producers of this breathtaking championship ring really outdid themselves. The tableau of this masterpiece displays 46 real diamonds. Decorating the raised image of the Stanley Cup are 24 diamonds that represent the number of Canadiens' Cup titles while more encircle it. The exactly 100 points of diamonds commemorate the Cup's 100th anniversary. Appearing on one shank is the logo of the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals. Arched above is "Montreal Canadiens" while "24 Together" is below. The opposite side features the Habs logo in enamel with "Lapointe" above and "P.R." below. Stamped on the inside band of the size 9 ring are "14K" and "Everest". The ring was presented to Michele Lapointe, head of public relations whose actual title was Director of Team Services. She will sign a letter of authenticity that will accompany this dazzling memento which is in gorgeous near mint condition.
