This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Intriguing lot comes from Luigi "Lou" Farelli, a North Bay, Ontario native who officiated in the NHL and other minor pro leagues, including the WHL, in the 1950's and 1960's. An 8" x 10" photo of Farelli is joined by Lou's black-on-white tackle twill nameplate, a red arm band, his game used whistle, a WHL chenille crest, a pair of hard foam shin guards, an NHL Handbook for Officials, a 1958 NHL Pension Fund Regulations booklet, numerous schedules and rule books and some interesting contracts and documents. A 1959 contract signed by Farelli and NHL President Clarence Campbell lists the amounts to be paid for referees and linesmen per game in the NHL, AHL and EPHL, both regular season and playoffs. A contract for the '60-61 WHL season is signed by Hall-of-Famer Al Leader. Letters from NHL Referee-in-Chief Carl Voss (another HOFer) include one from 1958 that calls on referees not to allow the marked increase in delay actics practiced by some coaches while a 1959 letter informs Farelli of a $25 fine for his failure to assess a misconduct penalty to Carl Brewer after the Leafs defenceman followed Farelli around protesting a minor penalty call! There's also a letter from an eye doctor to Campbell informing him of Farelli's perfect vision! There are half a dozen rule books and 5 schedules; 3 AHL skeds ('57 – '60) and a '59-60 EPHL schedule are marked while a similar EPHL one is unmarked. Collection is in great shape and was obtained dircectly from Lou Farelli.
