The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Although the NHL saw several changes and additions in the 1979-80 season with the arrival of four teams from the WHA and a rookie named Wayne Gretzky, one thing did not change; Marcel Dionne continued to be one of the league's top performers. Dionne followed up his 130-point 1978-79 season with a career-best 137 points which included 53 goals. His goal total was two better than Gretzky (who also finished with 137 points) and thus Dionne won his one and only league scoring championship. The Art Ross Trophy winner was also a 1st Team All-Star and for the second straight season was voted by his peers as the league's outstanding player, receiving this personal Lester B. Pearson Award. The attractive, heavy trophy measures approximately 7" x 6" and stands 10" high. It features the figure of a hockey player in motion encased in lucite which sits atop an aluminum base. An enameled logo of the NHL Player's Association is beside engraving which reads "1979-80 Marcel Dionne Los Angeles Kings". In excellent condition with minor surface scratching. Marcel Dionne, one of the game's greatest skaters, scorers and playmakers will sign a letter of authenticity that will be included with this very special award.
