The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
The best of the NHL faced the best of the Soviet Union in a 3-game series that replaced the NHL All-Star game in February of 1979. Marcel Dionne was en route to a career high 59 goals when he suited up for the series, donning #17 since Bobby Clarke claimed #16. The NHL stars took the opener 4-2 at Madison Square Garden while the Soviets evened the series with a 5-4 win. Dionne assisted on one goal in the loss and then was not in uniform as the Soviets embarrassed the NHL 6-0 in the rubber game. Marcel's truly sensational white dureen jersey is tagged in the neck by Gerry Cosby in size 48. An embroidered NHL crest is on the front with smaller league shields on the shoulders. The numbers and "Dionne" in individual letters (no nameplate) are in tackle twill and sewn-on. Game wear includes a few black marks on the right sleeve and 2 more on the back. Not often offered, this splendid Challenge Cup jersey is in magnificent condition and will come with an official team photo that Marcel autographed on the back and his signed LOA.
