Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Originally dubbed "Géant Ferré", a name based on the Picardian folk hero Grand Ferré, and later becoming "Jean Ferre", André René Roussimoff was finally named "Andre the Giant" after joining Vincent J. McMahon's World Wide Wrestling Federation in the early-to-mid-1970s. We have a rare on site advertising poster from 1973 featuring Andre the Giant and promoted by Quebec's Grand Prix Wrestling, which took place in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, on October 27th. At approx 15" x 22" and sporting vibrant colours, the headlining match featured Andre and Edouard Carpentier taking on Killer Kowalski and Mad Dog Vachon. Four other matches as listed, with a reserve ticket price of $4.00 and a general admission of $3.00. There is also a section near the base blacked out, with "VFW" handwritten in marker (all original posters from this event show this alteration). In excellent condition, ready for framing, there is just some very light corner wear to note.
