Billing itself as "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", the Calgary Stampede is an annual ten-day rodeo, exhibition, and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta. Tracing it’s roots back to 1886, the first official rodeo took place in 1912, with the event so popular that Calgary is known informally as "Stampede City", with the local CFL football team named the “Stampeders”. Commemorating the diamond jubilee of the rodeo, we offer a 60th anniversary limited-edition Wilkinson Calgary Stampede sword from 1972. At a full 43” in length, a number of detailed western motifs have been engraved on one side of the blade throughout it’s length including chuckwagons, horse riding cowboys and an Indian chief in full headdress. "By appointment of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Sword Cutlers" and "Made in England" is etched along the top of the blade at the hilt. The opposite side has the serial number “CS015". The handle exhibits moderate surface wear including a few dings, with additional wear to the medallion affixed to the pommel. The sword remains in beautiful condition overall, with light wear to the blade and just a small clump of scratches near the tip. This is one of four prominent swords in this auction that all hail from the same collector.
