Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
With a franchise history dating back to 1945 when the team operated in the Pacific Coast Hockey League (1945–1952) and Western Hockey League (1952-70), the Vancouver Canucks were granted a spot in the National Hockey League beginning with the 1970-71 season and have gone on to advance all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals on three (3) occasions. Offered here, we present this collection of ten (10) near-complete and complete sets of Royal Bank Vancouver Canucks photos that were released between 1970-71 and 1979-80. Released one (1) per week at Vancouver area Royal Bank of Canada branches and dubbed the "Leo Lenders Canucks Player of the Week" or the "Royal Leaders Canucks Player of the Week" depending on the release year, each card features either a head shot of posed action image of the featured player, done in black-and-white for the first two (2) seasons and then colour every year afterwards, as well as the Canucks and Royal Bank logos. Also in many cases listing the year that the image was released in, the images range in size from 5" x 7" from 1970-71 to 1976-77 down to 3 7/8" x 5 1/4" from 1977-78 to 1979-80. With each year's set complete based on available checklists except for the releases from 1971-72 (18 of the 21 in the checklist included) and 1977-78 (18 of 19 in the checklist included), all of the included images are found to be in overall pleasing and good condition for their efforts though common flaws seen throughout the group include toning, edge/corner wear, foxing, the odd crease/fold, the odd penned notation and surface marks/scratches in some cases. Overall, a fantastic grouping worthy of any Canucks collection!
