Finishing in 2nd place in the Smythe Division in 1989-90, with Mark Messier leading the club in scoring with 129 points, the Edmonton Oilers defeated Winnipeg in seven games during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs to set up a series against LA in the second round. The Oilers would defeat the Kings and former team captain Wayne Gretzky in four straight games, and would go on to beat both Chicago and Boston to capture Lord Stanley's coveted trophy. This lot offers a collection of approx 2,320 Oilers 35mm negatives from all four games of the 1990 Smythe Division finals vs LA. Along with the series vs LA, there are also negatives from team practices on April 17th and April 28th, the Kings arriving in Edmonton on April 17th, Russians working out with the Oilers on April 19th, the Kings working out on April 19th, Oilers arriving at LA airport on April 21st, Oilers at the Marriot Hotel for a team meeting on April 23rd, Oilers shopping in LA on April 23rd, Oilers ready to depart LA airport on April 25th, a billboard in California showing Gretzky, and more.
