Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
Referred to by collectors as Cowan Tiles, these 6” by 6” ceramic affairs were reportedly meant to be sold at NHL arenas but speculation is that licensing issues led to them never being released to the public, and despite most apparently being destroyed, a fairly large number has survived. “SCREENART PRODUCTS LTD. – Made in Canada” is printed on the cork backing of each and we offer this group of twenty-nine (29) of the desirable and fragile tiles. Included by team, there are sixteen (16) tiles of New York; Ballon (x2), Worsley (x2), Langlois (x2 - one with surface stains), Hebenton (x2), Howell (x2), Horvath (x2), Harvey (x2) and Cahan (x2). There are eleven (11) tiles of Montreal; Gilles Tremblay (x2), Richard (x2), Goyette (x2), Backstrom (x2), Berenson (x2 - one with a surfaces stain) and Fontinato. Also including a Toronto tile of Tim Horton and a Red Wings tile of Howie Young, the tiles are all in like new condition except for some light surface stains/residue unless otherwise noted above, with all but those of Horton, Young and one of the Gilles Tremblay examples housed in their original boxes.
