Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
While it was the end of an era in Buffalo in the late-1970s for the French Connection, with Rick Martin's suffering a devastating knee injury and Rene Robert dealt to Colorado in 1979, the organization did have a new beginning with the addition of considerable talent behind the bench and in the front office. Legendary hockey mind Scotty Bowman was hired as head coach and general manager in June of 1979, followed by past NHL star Jim Roberts as assistant coach and Roger Neilson as associate coach a month later. Brining up the reserve talent, a 30-year old Mike Keenan was signed as coach of the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate Rochester Americans. This lot offers a group of Buffalo Sabres press releases dating from 1978 to 1980 and totaling 6. All in the 8 1/2" a 11" range and on Sabres letterhead (one document is larger), there is a release regarding Bill Inglis being named interim coach in December of 1978, a release naming Bowman as coach and GM in June of 1979 (2 pages), a release naming Neilson as associate coach in June of 1979, a release naming Roberts as assistant coach in July of 1979 (2 pages - one has Robert's career playing stats), a release naming Bucky Kane as director of player personal in October of 1980, and a release naming Keenan as Americans head coach in June of 1980. There is also a small photo of Roberts, with the documents all showing just light wear with no issues.
