Featuring the world's eight greatest hockey nations, the 1981 IIHF World Championships took place in Sweden, with the Soviet Union claiming the transcontinental country's 17 world title while going undefeated. The 47th time the Wold Championships were held, with an average attendance of just over 5,300 per game, Sweden's Peter Lindmark earned top goaltender honours. We present a 1981 IIHF World Championship gold medal. Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter with the original blue and yellow ribbon attached and "1981" to the bail, "World Championships" appears in raised letters circling the perimeter on the obverse along with two generic players. Featuring a painted globe IIHF logo with crossed hockey sticks on the reverse, it is encompassed by "International Ice Hockey Federation" in matching style raised letters. The medal displays beautifully and remains in near mint condition, with just a tiny pair of surface blemishes visible.
