Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
Marking the second time Canadian company Parkhurst had released a set of hockey cards, the 1952-53 assembly would have been considered a set up at the time being larger than the cards released the year prior and with full sized images of players with information gracing the reverse while the checklist held consistent at 105 cards, highlighted by the RC of a young defenseman by the name of Tim Horton. Presented here, we offer this grouping of thirty-six (36) cards from the 1952-53 Parkhurst release. Paced by a trio of graded offerings, present are those #14 Doug Harvey (PSA VG-EX 4), #39 Gus Mortson (PSA VG+ 3.5), #78 Johnny Peirson (PSA VG-EX 4) and #105 Bob Hassard (PSA GOOD+ 2.5). For the rest of the cards, mostly found in the condition range of VG-EX to EX for their efforts, among the key cards within the group are those of 3-Geoffrion (GOOD - crease that the bottom right and corner wear), 9-Johnson (VG-EX to EX - slightly off-center and light corner wear), 21-Stanley (VG-EX to EX - large wax stain on the reverse), 27-Mosienko (VG-EX to EX - off-center), 44-Kennedy (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 46-Watson (EX to EX-MT - off-center), 59-Lumley (VG-EX to EX - off-center and wear to the bottom corners), 61-Pronovost (FR to G - large crease) and 72-Dumart (VG-EX to EX - light stain on the reverse). Of note, in the rest of the cards not listed above, eight (8) cards are found with wax staining on their reverses and one (1) has a large crease through it. Also including the 1952-53 Parkhurst album, the piece de resistance for any child working on completing their set, the piece measures 9" x 11" and features attractive Montreal vs Toronto graphics over the cover and a complete set checklist on the reverse. Missing two (2) of the thirteen (13) sheets that would have been included, some of the pages have numbers penned to their upper left hand corners while most show cuts and/or tears of various sizes. With each sheet able to hold eight (8) cards, the inside right side includes a spot for the owning youngster to put their favourite card from the set. In overall good condition except for the sheets mentioned above, it is worth noting that the glue has let go on one interior pocket fold and that there is some minor staining over the front/reverse as well as to be expected corner and edge wear.
