This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
Publishing his first paid hockey article in a New York Rangers game program in 1970 that earned him a total of fifty ($50) dollars, from there, Frank Brown began his career as a journalist for The Associated Press, typically covering the Montreal Canadiens. Under the leadership of Stan Fischler, Brown stated he learned the "courage of my convictions" after being handed Gordie Howe's phone number. Moving on to the New York Daily News in 1980, where he would remain until 1998, when he joined the National Hockey League as a communication executive, a position he would hold with the league until his retirement in 2018. Awarded the 2019 Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame, offered here from his personal collection, we offer this grouping of various New York Knicks press pins, buttons passes and accreditations that date from the 1970s to the 2010s. Found in a variety of styles and sizes with many retaining their original lanyards/laces and displaying headshot images of Brown on them, the group is paced by a circa-1970s Knicks press pass pin that is bronze in colour with orange and blue enamel details over the top portion, including a "Press" designation in blue letters. Also including a pair of Knicks working press playoff pinback buttons from the 1971 and 1972 NBA Playoffs, all three (3) items listed remain in excellent condition overall considering their age and show just light wear from handling, use and age. For the rest of the lot, included are Knicks passes from the 1991, 1992 and 2000 NBA Playoffs plus the 2002-03 and 2003-04 NBA seasons. Also presenting with a 1990 Boston Celtics NBA Playoffs pass and a 2002-03 Los Angeles Clippers pass, the rest of the lot includes passes from Game 3 of the 1999 NBA Finals, 2007 and 2008 NBA All-Star Weekends, 2003 NBA Finals, 1998-99 NBA season and 2001-02 NBA season. Finally, also included with the lot are Knicks and Celtics ticket stubs from October 12, 1971, 1991 NBA Playoffs and March 16, 2019 as well as pinback buttons from the 1970 and 1971 ECAC Holiday Basketball Festivals.
