Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
The most iconic baseball card set of all-time and featuring the always sought after rookie card of Mickey Mantle as card #311 in its checklist of 407 different examples, the 1952 Topps baseball card set laid the foundation for what would become the modern trading card. In addition to the larger checklist, the design of the cards themselves featured full team logos, colorized black-and-white photography and, most interestingly, a facsimile signature of the player taken directly from their player contract with Topps. Offered here, we present this collection of 26 cards from the storied release. Paced by a trio of cards that have been encapsulated by PSA, the trifecta of graded examples includes the likes of HOFers Willie Mays, which has earned a mark of VG-EX 4 for its effort, Early Wynn, who sports a grade of VG 3 over its label, and lastly, Richie Ashburn, who has been deemed worthy of a VG-EX 4 designation after its inspection. All housed in good condition PSA holders for preservation that shows just some very minor scratches and scuffs to make mention of, the rest of the group, including #'s 8-Marsh, 26-Irvin, 201-Kellner, 232-Cox, 241-Byrne, 249-Adams, 258-Gromek, 260-Castiglione, 262-Trucks, 263-Brecheen, 264-Hartsfield, 265-Diering, 267-Gordon, 269-Nixon, 274-Branca, 275-Mullin, 286-DeMaestri, 291-Coan, 293-Sisti, 303-Dorish, 307-Campos, 309-Busby and 310-Metkovich, all the cards are found in their original raw ungraded state and are in a low-grade condition with various defects including creases, wear to the corners/rounded corners, surface wear and other assorted defects. Photos of all the raw cards included in the lot are seen in the listing to show their individual conditions.
