Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
A benchmark moment in American sports and widely considered the greatest upset of all-time, the US Olympic hockey team famously defeated the formerly unbeatable Soviet Red Army squad at the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid - forever known as "The Miracle on Ice". Offered here, we present this pair of tickets from games played during the hockey tournament of the Games including Team USA's February 12th opening game versus Sweden that resulted in a 2-2 tie and the Soviet Union's February 18th contest versus Finland that saw the Red Army prevail with a 4-2 victory. Measuring approximately 7 1/2" x 2 1/2" for the full ticket (Team USA's 2-2 tie vs Sweden) and slightly larger than 6" x 2 1/2" for the stub (the Soviet's 4-2 win over Finland), both tickets display imagery including the Olympic Rings and logo for the Games as well as the game number, date, time, venue, price and seat information. Both showing light surface, edge and corner wear, the ticket from the Soviet game shows some chipping to the blue areas and blue coloured smudges over the front plus some light foxing over the reverse.
