A plethora of cardboard offerings sure to keep our winning bidder occupied for hours upon hours which could be good for both collectors looking to add some bulk to their portfolio or a dealer looking to gather a large grouping of inventory, offered here is this lot of over 3500 cards.
Paced by a complete set of Topps’ 1978-79 hockey release that includes the key rookie card of Mike Bossy, which is found to be in the condition range of EX-MT to NM overall while being off-center on the reverse, the rest of the set, housed in nine-pocket binder pages with price stickers overtop of most of the cards, is found to be mostly in the range of EX-MT to NM-MT overall. For the rest of the set’s key cards, included are the examples of 1-Bossy Highlights (EX to EX-MT – light border wear seen on the reverse), 50-Dryden (EX-MT to NM), 90-Lafleur (EX-MT to NM), 143-Federko RC (EX-MT to NM – off-center on the reverse) and 168-Wilson RC (EX-MT to NM). Continuing on, a good majority portion of the lot is made up of over 1900 cards from Topps’ 1981-82 hockey release, with most appearing to be in the condition ranges of mid-grade to high-grade for their efforts. Featuring two (2) distinct sets due to regional distribution that are dubbed “East” and “West”, both feature checklists of 132-cards in all and have the same 66 cards to start each set while sporting differing checklists for the next 66. Including a near-set of cards 1 to 66 that is missing the likes of 19-Lafleur and 52-Gretzky TL, the group also includes a complete set of 67 to 132 East, a near set of 67 to 132 East that is missing 117-Gartner, another near set of 67 to 132 East that is missing 110-Propp and 117-Gartner and finally, a near set of 67 to 132 West that is missing just card #75, the rookie of Denis Savard. For the key cards found throughout the large grouping of 1981-82 Topps examples, present are those of 16-Gretzky (x2 – both EX-MT to NM and off-center at the top border), 18-Kurri RC (x2 – both EX-MT to NM with 70-30 centering), 39-Stastny RC (EX-MT to NM – slightly off-center), 100-Murphy RC (EX-MT to NM – slightly off-center) and 105-Ciccarelli RC (EX to EX-MT – tiny ding to the top right corner). For the rest of the 1981-82 Topps part of the collection, with heavy duplication, approximately 1400 cards numbered 1 to 66 are present, with the group including only one (1) of 16-Gretzky and 18-Kurri RC as mentioned above while missing those of 4-Bossy, 5-Bourque, 39-Stastny and 52-Gretzky TL while also included is a group of roughly 500 cards of 67 to 132 East that features heavy duplication and doesn’t include any examples of 67-Foster, 68-Kasper RC, 109-Peeters, 110-Propp, 111-Checklist, 117-Gartner, 125-Bossy SA and 126-Bourque SA. Finally, rounding out all the Topps cards, present are 76 cards from the company’s 1974-75 release that includes an EX to EX-MT copy of Borje Salming’s key rookie card that sports 90-10 centering and a corner ding to the bottom right. All these cards are housed in binder pages with price stickers placed atop of most of the included cards, which mostly appear to be in the ranges of VG-EX, EX and EX-MT. Lastly, approx. 180 cards from their 1977-78, 1978-79 and 1979-80 releases are present as well, presenting in a mid-grade state overall and housed in binder pages with price stickers over the front of most of the cards included.
Moving on to the O-Pee-Chee section of the collection, included are approximately 700 cards from their 1980-81 release that includes duplication throughout with the cards themselves in a mix of grade ranges including G, VG, VG-EX and VG-EX to EX overall. Also including approx. 375 cards from the 1981-82 OPC release, there is duplication throughout with the grades seen as being a mix of G, VG, VG-EX and mid-grade while none of the better rookie or star cards are present other than a creased copy of Paul Coffey’s rookie card, a pair of Glenn Anderson’s rookie cards and some lesser Gretzky cards. For the rest of the collection, included are approx. 225 cards from the 1982-83 OPC release (none of the better ones) that are in a mix of grades including VG, VG-EX and some EX, approx. 175 cards from the 1983-84 OPC release (none of the better cards) that are in a mix of grades including VG, VG-EX and some mid-grade examples while finally, the whole thing is rounded off with approx. 225 cards from the 1984-85 release that shows duplication throughout with a mix of grades including G, VG, VG-EX and EX while none of the better cards are included other than a low-grade copy of Cam Neely’s rookie card and some lesser Gretzky and Yzerman cards (not his rookie).
