Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
It takes money to build an arena and a bond issue was part of the financing of the original Madhouse on Madison, the old Chicago Stadium. This cool piece of investment and hockey history is a 1929 redeemed $30 bond coupon from the Chicago Stadium Corporation, which represented an interest payment claimed by an investor who helped Chicago Stadium to get built and open in March 1929 and go on to provide a stage for the Black Hawks first three Stanley Cup wins, the exploits of Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito and Denis Savard, and Michael Jordan and the Bulls’ first three NBA championships before it hosted its final events in 1994.Printed by the Central Banknote Company, this 3 ½” x 1 ½” coupon was clipped from the bond and punched to indicate that the interest payment of $30 due on January 1, 1929 was paid to the bondholder, with thanks for helping to fund the construction of Chicago’s grand arena of the 20th century.
