This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here, we present this near-complete set of O-Pee-Chee's 1972-73 hockey release that includes 325 of the 341 cards that make up the checklist. Found to be in the overall fairly uniform condition ranges of EX and EX to EX-MT for their efforts, the set is missing #'s 19-Checklist, 117, 119, 126, 216, 231, 239, 252, 258, 275, 278, 310, 327, 329, 332 and 334-Checklist for completion. Also including between five (5) and ten (10) cards that are found to be in a lower grade state to the rest of the assembly, the key cards include those of 6-Checklist (GOOD - marked and creased), 8-Dionne (VG-EX to EX - 2nd year card - ding at the bottom left), 14-Clarke (VG-EX to EX - "bubble" at the top border), 58-Orr IA (EX - tiny ding at the top right), 59-Lafleur (VG to VG-EX - 2nd year card - surface wear), 111-P. Esposito (FR to G - creases and corner wear), 120-Orr (EX to EX-MT - print line over the bottom right), 145-Dryden (EX-MT to NM - 2nd year card), 190-Checklist (VG to VG-EX - unmarked - corner wear and off-center on the reverse), 227-Orr/Park AS (VG-EX to EX - bottom left corner ding), 228-Hull AS (EX-MT - off-center on the reverse), 247-Dryden IA (VG to VG-EX - off-center and corner wear), 283-Orr AL (EX to EX-MT - small ding at bottom right corner and off-center on the reverse), 336-Hull (EX to EX-MT - ding to top left corner), 340-Cheevers (EX to EX-MT - slightly off-center on the reverse and tiny pressure dent) and 341-Pinder (EX to EX-MT - last card of the set).
