Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
A product of the Ontario Hockey Association's Hamilton Red Wings, Jim Koleff would play three (3) years with the club and be drafted by the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League 125th overall at the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. Toiling for a quartet of seasons in the minor leagues between the Dallas Black Hawks and Flint Generals, Koleff would lead the IHL in scoring for the 1976-77 season, posting 114 points in 75 games played. Offered here, we present this Dallas Black Hawks jersey worn by Koleff during the 1975-76 CHL season. A heavy weight durene knit offering made by Wilson, a brand label displaying washing instructions and a size "46" designation is affixed to the inner collar above a sewn in label from noted Chicago equipment provider "Gunzo's". Decorated over the front of the garment with the Black Hawks' famed Indian head crest that features beautifully done chain-stitched details throughout its entirety, the shoulder's both feature crossed tomahawk "D" patches that feature the same chain-stitched embroidery. Styled over the sleeves and verso have been with Koleff's number "12" in dual layer black-over-red tackle twill numerals, evidence of a once in place nameplate that has long been lost to time is observed over the upper reverse. Void of a fight strap on the interior but showing its former placement through stitch marks through the bottom of the "2", a felt swatch displaying a "75" year designation is sewn inside the right hip. Of note, Chicago sent new sweaters down to Dallas every two seasons with the D tomahawks put on as original, and those were supposed to be worn for two (2) seasons. Research shows that nobody on the main roster wore the jersey in 1976-77 after it was worn by Koleff but it is possible that it was worn by a call-up at some point during the year. Displaying good game-wear throughout, team repairs are found over the right sleeve and right hip while stick marks are seen throughout the front, reverse and both sleeves. Sporting additional battle scars via good pilling on the interior, rubbing at the end of both cuffs, board burns over both sleeves and the body, coloured board paint transfers over the front and reverse hem plus left sleeve, pilling over the front hem, some popped stitches to the numbers on both sleeve (some repairs are seen to the numbers on the right sleeve) and finally, a couple small holes/fabric runs and stains throughout, don't miss out on this beautiful piece of southern hockey history.
