Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here is this complete set of 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee hockey, with the grouping here largely remaining in the overall condition ranges of VG to VG-EX and VG-EX to EX for its efforts. For the key cards, the group includes the likes of 6-Checklist (EX to EX-MT - unmarked and off-center), 8-Dionne (FR to G - heavy creasing at bottom left), 14-Clarke (G to VG - surface marks), 19-Checklist (VG to VG-EX - unmarked - corner wear), 58-Orr IA (GOOD - small crease at bottom right), 59-Lafleur (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 111-P. Esposito (EX to EX-MT - light print marks over the left side of the surface), 129-Orr (GOOD - heavy corner wear over the bottom two points), 145-Dryden (G to VG - corner wear), 190-Checklist (VG to VG-EX - unmarked - corner wear), 227-Orr/Park ("Authentic" - width is short), 228-Hull AS (EX - typical OPC cut and back faded), 247-Dryden AS (EX to EX-MT - slight corner fuzz at the bottom left), 283-Orr AL (VG to VG-EX - corner wear), 334-Checklist (GOOD - one box over the reverse seems to have been erased), 334-Checklist (EX to EX-MT - unmarked and slightly off-center), 336-Hull (FR to G - surface damage and faded back), 340-Cheevers (VG to VG-EX - small dings to the bottom corners) and 341-Pinder (PR - tape marks over the reverse). Of note, many of the cards display with corner wear.
