The first official hosting of the annual World Junior Hockey Championships based on IIHF records but actually the fourth (4th) edition of the tournament to be played, the 1977 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship saw the Soviet Union post a perfect record of 7-0 to claim the gold medal while Team Canada, represented by the 1976 Memorial Cup champion St. Catharines Fincups along with eight (8) additions from other OHA teams, claimed the silver medal while bronze went to Czechoslovakia. Offered here, we present this Team Canada jersey from the 1977 World Junior Hockey Championships. Of note, the jersey was originally listed as being worn by Dwight Foster based on a roster sheet we had from a pre-tournament exhibition contest. Further review of this sheet points more to him wearing the number "32" instead of "22" as previously stated. Nobody wore the number "22" during the tournament based on an available Hockey Canada roster sheet and its possible that the jersey was just an extra in the set that ended up being worn in some capacity, whether or not it was because of damage to one worn by a player or blood staining etc etc. A heavyweight durene knit offering made by Athletic Knit, a brand label displaying a size "44" designation and washing instructions is still affixed to the inner collar. Decorated over the front of the jersey with "Canada" going diagonally down the chest from right-to-left in rubberized letters, a maple leaf with "76" inside has been added in matching style over the left breast, likely due to the fact that the tournament began during the calendar year of 1976. Styled over the sleeves and verso with the number "22" in either single layer red or white rubberized numerals, a trio of red rubberized maple leafs have been added over both sleeves. Void of fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows just light wear via light stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, a small hole on the inside of the left sleeve, light pilling around both cuffs and light pilling on the interior, heavy staining is seen throughout the entirety of the piece as well. Of note, the Hockey Canada website lists nobody as having worn the number "22" during the tournament with Foster wearing number "29" but an including printed out roster from the event lists Foster as having worn the number "22".
