Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025

Altering the line-up for the second match after their devastating 7-3 loss in Game 1, Team Canada scratched several big name players - including HOFers Ken Dryden, Jean Ratelle and Rod Gilbert - for Game 2 of the 1972 Canada-Russia Series. Played on September 4 at Maple Leaf Gardens, Team Canada provided a much stronger effort and evened the Summit Series with a 4-1 win in a game that is often remembered for Peter Mahovlich’s legendary shorthanded goal. We offer an original 1972 Canada-Russia Series ticket stub produced for Game 2 in Toronto, graded EX 5 by PSA. At 1 ¾” x 4 ½”, the ticket lists the game, date, venue and seat, along with the $7.00 cover price, with advertising on the reverse from CCM. Sporting a fairly clean front and reverse, the ticket displays wonderfully. Out of the 22 such Game 2 ticket stubs submitted to PSA over the years, this pop-3 example is only bettered by three examples that each received a PSA 7 grade.
