Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Constructed during the Great Depression in a mere five and a half months at a cost of $1.5 million, Maple Leaf Gardens opened it's doors in November of 1931, with the Maple Leafs losing 2–1 to the Chicago Blackhawks in the historic venue's first hockey game. The home of Toronto's beloved Leafs until 1999, the Gardens hosted countless Stanley Cup matches along with the first unofficial All-Star Game with the benefit held for Leafs' star Ace Bailey, in 1934. Offered here, we present this copy of the 1999 coffee table book titled "Maple Leaf Gardens: Memories and Dreams" that was produced by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment in commemoration of the famed building's closing. Outlining the history of the facility throughout the 375 pages on the interior, the desirable book remains in beautiful condition and retains its original dust jacket as well. Enhanced further by the 30+ signatures that have been penned by former Maple Leafs inside the front cover in black marker ink that displays well, those that have signed include Pierre Pilote, Bobby Baun, Paul Henderson, Andy Bathgate, Ron Ellis, Allen Stanley, Bob Nevin, Ed Chadwick, Billy Harris, Dick Duff, and Sid Smith plus many others. All displaying well, the book hails from the personal collection of Pierre Pilote and comes accompanied by a Pilote Family LOA.
