Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
A veteran of 431 WHA games, Brad Selwood would play with the New England Whalers during the club’s entire tenure in the World Hockey Association, spanning from the first season in 1972-73 and staying till the end of the final campaign in 1978-79. Also playing a total of 163 in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings, offered here is this stick used by Selwood as a member of the Whalers. A Christian made 1000 Pattern Pro model that features a mostly intact green and white coloured striping accent sticker at the bottom of the shaft, a "Selwood" identifier stamp is found in the middle of the shaft while brad's number "3" has been penned to the upper shaft under the handle tape in black marker ink that displays well. Retaining it's original tape job of white over the handle/knob and toe area of the blade, a red coloured vinyl label that reads "Brad Selwood 1974" in white letters is affixed to the upper part of the shaft on the forehand side. Having had "1974" penned to the upper part of the shaft on the backhand side in black pen ink, the stick exhibits game-use via a few marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft while puck marks are observed over the heel and untaped areas of the blade on both sides, which has been darkened via being heated up with a blowtorch. With a crack/break in the toe of the stick, the blade tape, which has yellowed over time, also shows marks over both sides as well. Originally gifted by Selwood to WHA linesman Gene Kusy, a copy of a letter of provenance signed and dated by his son, Michael, will accompany the piece.
