Exceedingly large by the standards of the day, the 1959 Topps baseball release rang in at an impressive 572 cards and was the largest Topps set in existence when it was originally released. Anchored by the rookie card for Bob Gibson and other key Hall of Fame cards, 1959 Topps Baseball offers a big change for vintage collectors in comparison to the previous releases, with a new design, large checklist and a variety of subsets that made the '59 set a memorable and groundbreaking one for those releasing cards from their wax wrappers. Offered here, we present this starter set of Topps' 1959 baseball release that includes 323 of the 572 cards featured within the checklist. Including no cards higher than card number 374, missing from cards 1-374 are notables including 40-Spahn and 202-Marris as well as forty-nine (49) others. For the key cards, included are those of 1-Frick (FR to G - multiple creases which show more over the reverse), 10-Mantle (GOOD - black factory print line and right border wear), 20-Snider (EX to EX-MT - slight corner wear), 50-Mays (EX - light wear to the bottom two corners), 150-Musial (VG to VG-EX - light corner and surface wear), 163-Koufax (FR to G - minor surface wear and damage to the top right corner), 180-Berra (GOOD - ding to the left border, mini crease through the bottom right side border and corner wear), 212-Aaron/Matthews (EX - off-center and small ding to the top right corner), 310-Aparicio (VG-EX to EX - light surface wear), 317-Hit Kings/Mays (VG-EX to EX - small dent to the top border), 338-Anderson RC (EX to EX-MT - tiny ding to top right corner), 350-Banks (G to VG - off-center, surface scratch and corner wear) and 360-Kaline (EX - slight corner wear). Also featuring some low-grade examples scattered throughout and including unmarked team checklist cards, the group breakdown includes cards up to #110 with a light back that are in an average condition of EX, cards #111 up to #197 with a dark back that are in an average condition of G to VG, cards #199 up to #285 with a light back that are in an average condition of VG-EX and cards #287 up to #373 with a dark back that are in an average condition of VG-EX to EX.
