The No. 1 pick in the 1984 NHL Draft, Mario Lemieux lived up to the hype in his first NHL season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. After smashing records in his stellar junior career with the Laval Voisins, Super Mario claimed the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year in his debut campaign at the old Igloo. He scored 43 goals and an even 100 points and those stats are printed on the back of his desirable 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee rookie card. The budding superstar then thoroughly impressed his peers in his second big league season ('85-86), evidenced by them voting Lemieux recipient of the Lester B. Pearson Trophy as the league's outstanding player as selected by the NHL Players' Association, ending a four-year run by Mr. Gretzky. This example of card #9 was just graded at PSA and it received a pleasing mark of NM 7. It displays wonderfully in its new PSA holder and is a must for any serious card collection.
