Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
A product of the Ferris State University Bulldogs in the NCAA who originally went undrafted before signing as a free agent with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Chris Kunitz would go on to a career that would see him play in over 1000 games with the likes of Anaheim, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Chicago over the course of fifteen (15) years in the National Hockey League. A four (4) time Stanley Cup champion and a gold medalist at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games with Team Canada, offered here is this stick used by Kunitz as a member of the Penguins during the 2008-09 season in which Pittsburgh won their 3rd Stanley Cup in franchise history. An Easton made S17 model that only saw use during that season's Cup run, "Kunitz" factory graphics are found over the upper shaft while the stick retains its original white tape job over the handle/knob, shaft and blade. Having been signed by Kunitz over the forehand side of the blade tape with a blue marker ink signature that displays well despite some fading from age, the stick shows game-use throughout in the form of discolouration and soiling of the tape over the lower shaft, marks and abrasions over the lower shaft, heel and untaped sections of the blade, plus puck marks over both sides of the blade tape.
