Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Playing his junior hockey with JYP in his native Finland before coming over to North America for a pair of seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, Olli Maatta would be drafted 22nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and go on to help Pittsburgh to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017. Also having suited up in the National Hockey League for the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings, Maatta would help his native Finland to a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Offered here, we present this stick used by Maatta as a member of Team Finland at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. A Bauer Supreme 1S model offering with "Maatta" factory graphics over the shaft, the stick retains its original black tape job over both the handle/knob and blade. Having been broken and mended in the middle with matching black tape, the stick shows game-wear via various small marks and abrasions throughout the shaft, lower shaft, heel and untaped sections of the blade while the blade tape shows marks over both sides as well. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
