Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

A product of the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs in the QMJHL who helped them to consecutive President's Cup championships in 1978 and 1979, Normand Rochefort would be drafted 24th overall by the Quebec Nordiques at the 1980 NHL Entry Draft and would go on to play a total of 598 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Quebec, New York and Tampa Bay, he was also a member of Team Canada at the 1987 Canada Cup. Offered here, we present this Quebec Nordiques jersey worn by Rochefort circa 1986. An Ultrafil material construction offering made by CCM that is void of any labeling affixed to the inner collar, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "54" for its effort and has had the CCM logo embroidered into its reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Nordiques team crest in layered tackle twill that also features embroidered details, the all-important Rendez-Vous '87 patch, added to jerseys by the Nordiques in the second half of the 1985-86 season, appears over the right sleeve. Of note, research shows that the Nordiques had the patch in place on their jerseys by the time they played the Edmonton Oilers on February 14th, 1986 but not on January 17th, 1986 against the Hartford Whalers. It is likely that the patches were added following the All-Star Game (hosted by Hartford) on February 4th, 1986. Rochefort missed considerable time during the 1985-86 season, playing only two (2) games after the All-Star Game was played. Additionally, he did not suit up in the 1986 Stanley Cup Playoffs but returned to play seventy (70) games the next year and all thirteen (13) of Quebec's contests during the 1987 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Reviewing video footage from the 1987 Stanley Cup Playoffs, it appears that this jersey is NOT the one he was wearing during those games. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Rochefort's number "5" in single layer blue vinyl numbers, "Rochefort" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Also displaying blue vinyl Fleur-de-lis across the lower front and reverse plus both shoulders, the vinyl details throughout display with heavy cracking/flaking, something that is common with Nordiques jerseys of this era. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows good game-wear via stick marks, board burns, snags/pulls, coloured board paint transfers and pilling on the interior, as well as light discoloration from use/age and small spot stains throughout.
