The immortal Howie Morenz led the Montreal Canadiens to their second straight Stanley Cup title in 1931 and the movers and shaker’s at the city’s famed Club St. Denis made a point of honoring the Stratford Streak. This spectacular vintage silver-plated cocktail shaker with “Le Club St. Denis A Howie Morenz Les Canadiens Champions du Monde 14 Avril 1931” engraved on the front was gifted to the Habs superstar for his role in becoming just the second NHL team to win the Cup in consecutive seasons. After defeating the Boston Bruins in the 1930 Cup final, the Canadiens were back to defend their title the following year, this time facing the Chicago Black Hawks, who made their first Stanley Cup final appearance. Chicago was coached by Dick Irvin, who would go on to guide the Canadiens to the Cup three times, but Morenz saw to it that the Cup stayed in Montreal in 1931. Howie buried the second goal in the Canadiens’ 2-0 win in Game 5 on April 14, the date engraved on the cocktail shaker, which acclaims Morenz and the Canadiens as World Champions. Topped with a removable lid, this majestic silver-plated creation with a spout and ornate handle stands an impressive 14” tall. It bears the stamped hallmark with “Sheffield Reproduction 7512/1” on the bottom of the base. Founded in 1874, Club St. Denis was the preferred meeting place for Montreal’s French-speaking business and political elite. This historic cocktail shaker presented to Morenz by Club St. Denis remains in nice condition with some tarnishing giving it a nice patina. A hardcover book about the Club St. Denis is included.
