Both enjoying lengthy professional hockey careers and combining to play a total of 1628 games of pro hockey between the National Hockey League and World Hockey Association, offered here is this pair of sticks used during the era of the 1980s by the likes of Ron Greschner and Marty Howe while members of the New York Rangers and Hartford Whalers. Starting with the Greschner stick, a Koho example that dates to the early-1980s, his number "4" is penned over the upper shaft in faded black marker ink while the stick retains its original tape job of white around the handle and black around most of the blade (the tape towards the toe has been removed). Also sporting a "Greschner" stamp over the upper shaft and retaining the accent striping stickers around the shaft as well, the stick has been signed by signed by approx. eight (8) names with a connection to the Rangers, with recognizable names including Ed Giacomin, Ulf Nilsson, Gilles Villemure, Rod Gilbert and others. All having signed in black marker ink throughout both sides of the shaft, the signatures that have been identified remain in good condition and legible despite some fading from age. Regarding game-use, moderate wear is observed via a number of marks and abrasions throughout, heaviest over the bottom of the shaft and heel, which shows a small crack over its topside edge, a sentiment shared by the top edge of the blade near the toe. Additionally, rips and tears are found over both sides/bottom edge of the blade tape.
For the Howe stick, dating from the period of the early-to-mid-1980s when Howe was a member of the Hartford Whalers, the Sher-Wood P.M.P. 5030 model twig sports a "Howe M." stamp over the upper shaft and retains its original tape job of green around the handle/knob and black around the blade. Still featuring its foil accent sticker around the bottom of the shaft, which shows a long crack in the topside from the from the middle down to the blade, the stick shows wear via a number of marks and abrasions throughout as well as marks over both sides of the blade tape and wear along the bottom edge.
