Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Legendary goaltender and innovator Jacques Plante was in his third year of senior hockey when he appeared on this, his first hockey card. Pictured in the uniform of the Montreal Royals, without the knitted tuque he often wore during games, Plante played in parts of five (5) seasons in the Quebec Senior Hockey League before cracking the Montreal Canadiens powerhouse lineup on his way to six Stanley Cup titles. Plante would go on to win the Vezina Trophy seven times and claim the Hart Memorial Trophy among numerous other awards and accomplishments. Still sitting second in Canadiens history for wins by a goaltender, Plante appeared on a hockey card for the first time in 1951-52 as part of Laval Dairy's release that featured players from the QSHL. The example up on the block here has just been graded by PSA, earning a VG-EX 4. This Plante pre-rookie card is housed in a freshly-minted PSA holder.
