The biggest stars come out to shine on Broadway, and late in 1975 the New York Rangers made a splash when they acquired hockey superstar Phil Esposito in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Bruins. From Phil Esposito’s personal collection is his signed Mitchell & Ness Rangers “Shield Style” captain’s jersey, the type worn by the Blueshirts in 1976-77 and 1977-78, Espo’s first two full seasons in New York. Phil’s bold black marker autograph and “HOF 1984” annotation graces the top of the left “7” of the white twill No. 77 sewn on the back. “Esposito” is spelled out in white twill letters sewn directly onto the jersey, while the No. 77 sewn on each sleeve is in blue twill. A size 52 flag tag hangs from the right of the Mitchell & Ness NHL Vintage Hockey tagging in the back of the neck. The “Authentic 1975-76” flag tag at the bottom displays Phil’s first season with the Rangers but is wrong about identifying this style, which was introduced the following season by John Ferguson. Embroidered Rangers crest is sewn on the front and the white twill captain’s C is sewn on the left breast, while Mitchell & Ness and Vintage Hockey logos are embroidered on the rear tail. The white fabric on the sleeves and tail exhibit reddish areas that have bled from the adjacent red fabric which do not diminish this autographed jersey that comes directly from one of the NHL’s greatest scorers ever. Comes with a signed LOA from Phil Esposito.
