Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
Beginning play in the 1972-73 NHL season, the New York Islanders played the clubs second NHL game on Oct 12, 1972 vs the Los Angeles Kings. Taking place at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the Islanders defeated the Kings 3-2, with Billy Harris (2) and Germain Gagnon scoring the victor's goals. This was the first win in franchise history. We have a ticket stub from the match tapped to a vintage CCM "Official League Puck". The stub lists the date, seat and venue, along with "Game 2". While there is no evidence that the NHL used these CCM pucks in any games, as the club was a new franchise, it may be possible that the puck was used in the contest for some unknown reason.
