The first time in history the Olympic Games were hosted by a Canadian city, the Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976 were awarded after the city was chosen over both Moscow and Los Angeles. From the games of the 21st Olympiad comes this participant's medal, along with a scarce Fisher lighter from the Games and souvenir medallion, with each item in the original case. The medal features the Montreal Olympic Games logo on one side and an image of the Olympic Stadium on the other, joined by the legend, "XXIe Olympiade Montreal 1976." Of copper composition, measuring 1-3/4" in diameter and with a mintage of 19,760, these medals were presented to athletes in leather cases bearing a red metallic-like Montreal Olympic logo. The souvenir medallion is approx the same size as the participation medal, with an attached chain to wear around the neck. One side features Olympic stadium, while the other has a backdrop of the city along with the Olympic rings, The case is solid red with gold coloured lettering on the inside lid. The lighter is circular in design, with enamel Canadian flag and Olympic rings on one side, and "Canada 1976" on the other. We are unsure if the lighter is still in working order. The original case is a plastic flip-top, with a Fisher logo along with the Olympic rings and "1976 Canada" on the underside lid. There are a few minor surface blemishes on one side of the lighter, with the medal and medallion both in beautiful condition.
