Released during a period of time when the Toronto Maple Leafs were winning back-to-back-to-back Stanley Cup championships between 1961-62 and 1963-64, offered here is this lot featuring near-complete and starter sets of Parkhurst's final three (3) hockey card releases from 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1963-64.
Starting with a near-complete set from 1961-62 that features thirty-eight (38) of the fifty-one (51) cards making up the checklist, the group is mostly found to be in the condition range of EX for its effort with some cards also a bit worse off, including eight (8) that display with creases. Missing 1-Horton, 2-Mahovlich, 6-Stewart, 10-Nevin, 11-Baun, 15-Harris, 17-Armstrong, 28-Litzenberger, 32-Stasiuk, 37-Langlois, 45-Beliveau, 46-Goyette and 48-Talbot for completion, the cards which have a crease/creases are 13-Keenan, 24-Lunde, 26-Ullman, 36-Moore, 41-Turner, 42-Johnson, 50-Provost & 51-Pronovost. Among the key cards, included are those of 3-Bower (VG to VG-EX - corner wear), 5-Keon RC (GOOD - small crease at right side), 20-Howe (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 31-Sawchuk (GOOD - small creases at both the left and right borders), 43-H. Richard (VG to VG-EX - very tiny crease at top left border) and 49-Plante (G to VG - scuff/scratches over the reverse).
For the 1962-63 release, featuring thirty-seven (37) of the fifty-six (56) cards that make up the checklist, the group is found to be in the overall condition range of VG-EX to EX for their efforts and is missing #'s 3, 6, 11, 16-Bower, 17, 20, 21-Ullman, 30-Howe, 31-Howe, 32, 36, 39-Beliveau, 41, 49-Plante, 50, 51, 54-JC Tremblay RC, 55-Checklist and 56-Zip card for completion. For the included key cards, present are the examples of 4-Mahovlich (VG-EX to EX - slight corner wear), 7-Horton (G to VG - small stain on the reverse plus a tiny crease at the right side border), 15-Keon (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 18-Mahovlich (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 38-H. Richard (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear) and 48-Geoffrion (GOOD - surface wear over both the front and reverse). Finally, for the starter set of cards from 1963-64, the last hockey release from Parkhust, the group includes thirty-one (31) of the ninety-nine (99) cards that make up the checklist with the overall condition range found to be around EX to EX-MT. Missing key cards such as 5-Bower, 17-Mahovlich, 23-Richard, 27-Laperriere RC, 30-Beliveau, 33-Ferguson RC, 39-Worsley, 42-Faulkner RC, 53-Sawchuk, 55-Howe, 65-Bower, 69-Shack, 75-Keon, 77-Mahovlich, 82-Richard, 86-Laperriere RC, 89-Beliveau, 92-Ferguson RC and 99-Maniago RC, the group does include notable examples of 1-Stanley (VG-EX - 60-40 centering and light surface scratch), 16-Horton (FR to G - crease across middle), 40-Maniago RC (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear), 50-Delvecchio (EX to EX-MT - light wear to top left corner), 52-Ullman (GOOD - bottom border wear and wax stains) and 76-Horton (EX to EX-MT - 60-40 centering). Of note, card #12 of Bob Pulford is creased which is worth noting for accuracy.
