Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Spending a trio of seasons in Ontario with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2002 to 2006, Ed Belfour would secure his 400th career win with the blue and white in 2002-03. The superstar netminder would also pass Terry Sawchuk to claim second spot on the all-time wins list, on Dec 19, 2005. Offered here, and hailing from his final season donning the Maple Leafs blue and white colours, is this pair of photo-matched pads worn by Belfour during the latter part of the season. CCM made "Vector V Pro" model pillows in Toronto's white, blue and silver colours, "CCM" logo patches appear over the outside of both pads while "Belfour" has been embroidered into the outside top portion of the right pad. Of note, the top canvas blue coloured portion of the left pad as well as the outer calf wrap have oxidized over time and either completely or mostly lost their original blue colour. Complete with all the leather straps, skate lace toe ties and buckles, the pads display with good use despite their limited time on ice at the end of the year via puck marks throughout their entirety as well as sweat staining/soiling, colour bleed/transfer, red post paint transfers and small areas of leather fraying/scuffing around the edges. Regarding the photo-match, the pads are matched with Getty Image #57299045 (March 4th, 2006 vs Ottawa) to various puck marks over the faces of both pads. Hailing directly from Belfour's personal collection, the pads will come accompanied by Belfour's signed LOA.
