Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The first person of Indian descent to lace up a pair of skates in the National Hockey League, Robin Bawa would play a total of 61 games in the NHL for the likes of the Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to go along with over 700 games played in the IHL and AHL. Playing his junior hockey in the WHL before turning professional, offered here is this Kamloops Blazers jersey worn by Bawa during the 1985-86 season. A lightweight mesh construction offering made by Cooper, brand, size "Large" and CAHA Approved tags are all affixed to the inner collar while a Cooper logo is embroidered into the reverse hem. Measuring out to roughly a size "48" and also displaying a screened on "Jardines" logo over the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Blazers team crest that includes embroidered details. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Bawa's number "17" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals, the nameplate that was once affixed to the upper reverse has long since been removed and lost to time. With the original penny style fight strap removed from the lower reverse but still showing its placement, the jersey shows game-wear via a number of stick marks, team repairs, board burns, coloured board paint transfers and small unrepaired holes seen throughout while pilling exists on the interior. A Blazers LOA will accompany the piece.
