Playing two seasons with his hometown Regina Pats in the WJCHL, Paul Masnick had an especially memorable year with the club in 1949-50, scoring 87 points in just 40 games, along with an additional 23 points in 9 playoff games. In the WJCHL playoff semi-finals, Masnick scored the overtime winner in Game 2 of the best-of-five series. In the finals vs Lethbridge, Masnick managed 4 points in Game 3 en route to a 6-5 win, and 3-2 series win. The Pats would advance to the Memorial Cup and make it to the final, losing to a strong Montreal Junior Canadiens squad with Masnick posting 27 points in 14 Memorial Cup games. Originating from his personal collection, we have Masnick's Regina Pats collection which includes a 1947-48 juvenile Pats Provincial plaque, 1949-50 Alta Distributors Pats trophy, three Pats patches, a Pats team photo with Masnick and a small newspaper scrap book with articles from Masnick's youth career including with the Pats. The Provincial wooden shield-shaped plaque is approx 7" x 10" with mounted metal components, while the small trophy is 6" with engraved details including "West Jr League Champs (WJCHL) P. Masnick 49/50". The colourful patches appear to be from jackets including one with "Midgets", one with "Juveniles 1947-48" and one more elaborate with "Western Canada Champs 49-50". The team photo is 8" x 9 1/2" with a 12" x 14" matte, with Masnick pictured in the back right corner. The scrapbook is 8 1/2" x 11 1/2", with some yellowing to the clear tape used to affix the newspaper clippings. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
